Oliver Table Saw; what’s it worth?
A friend of mine has aquired an old Oliver 10″ tilt top, 3 phase table saw. It’s quite a hulk, in real good condition with all parts (fence, mitre gauge, guards, etc.). However, he already has a nice new cabinet saw so he offered it to me. I’m not so keen on the tilt top feature so I told him to sell it….but for how much? I looked all over the internet and found alot of interest in old Oliver tools but nobody with prices to base off.
What do you all think? Is it worth selling? should he just keep it as a paper weight?
Thanks all

Typically those saws cost more to move than to buy. It's a good saw for typical 90 degree ripping. The tilt table is dangerous and shouldn't be used that way obviously. More of a saw for a production shop than a hobby shop. I've seen them go for $100 or even less.
"Three phase" kills its value as much as anything, from what I've seen following Craig's List and eBay. Don't know from first-hand experience how dangerous the tilting table is, but my understanding is that design was outlawed in Europe, which is why the Inca company went belly-up. Doesn't take much imagination to envision the dangers, though. If you have lots and lots of room, you could dedicate it to dados or ripping I s'pose.

Check out http://www.owwm.com they have a lot of info on Oliver equipment and they also have a classified section. There are a lot of people who think Oliver tools are the bees knees so that might be a good place to sell it.
Good luck

Depending on your location you should be able to get $500. Check Ebay, search for Oliver table saw then check the "completed listings" box and "display results". This will tell you what they have sold for.
Pardon my spelling,
Mike
Make sure that your next project is beyond your skill and requires tools you don't have. You won't regret it.
