Has any of you retrofitted a 1.5 HP model Oneida that has the internal filter with the newer external filter? Is it worth it? I don’t like the hassle of servicing the internal filter and wonder if the changeover is satisfactory. Jim

I did this about a year and a half ago, and it was well worth the expense and effort. Have you ever changed the internal filter? It's a real pain. You do need to be quite careful in letting Oneida know precisely which unit you have. When I first contacted them, I was told to send a drawing of my unit. I sent a picture from the original manual and that wasn't good enough. Be persistent with them in being sure that the parts they send will fit your system.
My dust collector is in a small enclosure with acoustical baffles across the top to let air escape while keeping the noise down. You would think there would be some dust in the enclosure, but there isn't. Cleanup just requires removing a small container from the bottom of the filter.
Thanks. I figured somebody out there got as POd as I have trying to keep that internal filter clean/changed. Like you, my unit is in a very small space and I'm a little concerned that if I install the external filter it will take up too much space, or not orient for the best position in the space. Do you know if the part of the old unit with the exhaust port can be rotated, or is it integral with the intake shroud so it can't be rotated to a different position? My 1.5 HP unit is about six years old.
My 1.5 HP Oneida is a 1995 model and was made before they used the intake shroud. I think they also changed the direction of rotation when they introduced the shroud. I had to rotate the entire dust collector, but the installation was not very difficult. I had some difficulty getting information from the person I talked to at first, but was eventually referred to an engineer who made things very simple.
OK. I'm gonna take a close look at mine today and see what it looks like in terms of making the changeover. Yesterday the remote switch quit working and I had to order a new receiving unit, so it looks like I'll be spending some time at the top end anyway. thanks for your responses, Bob.
I have an very glad I did.
