Oneway Jumbo jaw grippers on Cole jaws?
After having a my first bowl on a my Nova Cole jaws go flying off as I was trying to adjust and sand the bottom a-la my Richard Raffan dvd (only 400 rpm gripped externally) I am wondering: wouldn’t it be cool if the grippers from the Oneway Jumbo Jaws would work on the Nova Cole Jaws? The Cole jaw grippers seem designed for failure. I torqued them down with some gusto but they were still presented an almost 90 degree to the jaw surface angle. As I tightened them around my very small diameter (4″) bowl the bowl rose away from the plate surface. The Oneway grippers appear to have an angled profile that should pull the bowl down to the jaw surface. Craft Supplies USA and Woodcraft have the grippers and screws for for $25. So what do you lathe chuck junkies think?

That is why I have always made my own ring and jam chucks. They are basically free and I can customize them for whatever I need them to hold.
"...and I can customize them for whatever I need them to hold." ...and as I learned the other night, if you make the jam ever-so-slightly too small, nothing a couple of paper towels won't cure. Raffan's dry sense of humor...........<!----><!---->forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
That's a fact and it works too!
The angled 'grippers' of the oneway does exactly that. Call craft supplies and ask them if the oneway grippers will fit the cole jaws, Craft supply is very good on technical support. They were able to determine that the chuck on my Grizzly was a copy of the VicMark chuck and the jumbo jaws would fit. The homemade 'donut' bowl holder works well and a couple of different size adapter plates covers a lot of different sizes.
