Both are fine choices. I think you will be happy with either. Here is a good comparison review of the L-N and L-V Router Planes by Matt Estlea:

I purchased and only have experience with Lie-Nielsen Closed Throat Large Router Plane.
1. I went with the Closed Throat to maximize surface area in contact with the wood. I did not see less visibility of the closed throat as an issue.
2. I went with the Lie-Nielsen because of the depth stop screw tightening on the bar rather than the threaded screw on the Veritas. This was probably the deciding factor for me.
3. Shapening is probably better on the L-V but it is a Router Plane and fairly easy to sharpen free handed. I normally do all of my sharpening with the L-N Honing Guide.

Best of luck with your decision.
Thanks Gary
That was a very thorough response
You're welcome and enjoy your new router plane.

I agree with all these points. For sharpenng my router blade, I sharpen it on the flat bottom side as it is much easier and gets you to the same place you need to be.
L-N only has the closed-throat model in stock as of Jan 26, 2022.
