Folks,
I’m contemplating purchasing an 8″ Grizzly jointer (http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.cfm?itemnumber=G1018&), and I’m wondering if anyone has experiences good or bad with this machine? Their once-yearly tent sale is coming up on the 14th & I’m hoping to find one even cheaper than this.
Thanks,
David

I own the Griz 6" and have found it to be a very good machine. My understanding is that the 8" machines come from the same factory. Griz has been excellent to deal with, and I've heard many positive comments about the 8" jointer.
If you live within driving range of York, PA, you ought to consider Yorkcraft. It is cheaper than Griz unless you have to ship. I have the Yorkcraft. The fence couldn't be better. I would have bought a Griz in order to have handwheels but a shorter bed for about the same money, but I find the lever height adjustment tolerable. Table length was not an issue. However, Griz has several 8-inch models with features not offered by Yorkcraft. I once visited Grizzly & looked over their jointers. One model did not have knife height adjustment screws. It may have been a 6-incher. Look thoroughly before parting with your shekels.

I have the 8 inch jointer from Grizzly does an excellent Job I have had it 4 years and never a problem. I wish it had came with handwheels but the levers are O.K.
Thanks for your input. How exactly do the levers work? I've never used a jointer with them, only handwheels. It's not clear from the instruction manual on the web how to use them.
Thanks,
David
