My craftsman professional orbital sander has burned out. does anyone have any good recommedations for a replacement. I build furniture, and use my orbital quite a bit. I have not seen FWW’s comparison of orbital sanders issue (if there is a current one), and I can’t wait for the 2005 tool buying guide. Advice? andy good/bad experiences?

I have a DeWalt ROS that I like. The only problem I had was that the dust bag would vibrate loose but a self-tapping sheetmetal screw took care of that. - lol
I also have a Ryobi "Corner Cat" for finer work.

Hey, thanks. I just got a RIDGID 6". I like it, but think that I still need a good 5", as the 6" is quite cumbersome for the tight spots (too tall). I had that Ryobi that you've got and burned it up 2 hours after I took it out of the box. I found that Ryobi and Ridgid are owned by the same company, after I bought my ridgid... but the quality control seems to be better because they're marketed toward the contractor. I've not had good luck with Ryobi. I'll look into the DeWalt, although I've heard that their support is terrible if (in the rare case) the tool breaks. I wish that I knew of the perfect tool company. Craftsman has also let me down before. I'm not abusive toward my tools either, it seems that the quality just is harder to come by these days.
Considering the amount of trashing that goes on, I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I own (and use the hell out of) Ryobi tools. Maybe I'm lucky, but they work fine for me. - lol
Take PC, it's the best for the price. I still have two other brands which I don't use anymore since I got PC. Only Fein and Festool are better overall but you are talking about another price range which I am considering in the future.
Somertime: Get a Fein sander you won't be disappointed . It proberley the last sander you'll buy.see attached link. Good luck
