Like to know what do people do with the original OEM plane blades for Record and Stanley after they have changed to replacement A2 blades made by L-N, Veritus , Hocks and others.
I have quite a few pieces of OEM blades laying around and would like some suggestion on how I can utilise them in other ways in woodworking. It seem quit a shame just to leave them doing nothing.
Would appreciate any suggestions.

set them aside for dealing with softwood projects; they'll cope with that kinda stuff admirably... hardwood's another matter alltogether....

Thanks Mike & Daggs,
I'll adopt the idea of using the blades for soft wood and to make a marking knife . Not keen in the nija throwing stars.
How would the blades be used as shims and reference flat?

MIKE SOFT WOOD IS A MEAN THING!..
I have broken many drills in soft wood and cut myself there.. Never on a hardwood!
Will.. I know whatchya mean... however I'll stick to my guns; blades that bounced offa some wild grained elm made easy work of some softwood I had... nice clean finish to it too, knots and all.... Horses for courses...??Mike Wallace

I keep one sharp and heavy blade around to clean up edge-banding of veneer. If you get the hang of using it, it is reliable and so fast that the job is done before you can plug in the router/edge trimmer.

They can be used as heavy scrapers. Most can have their edges squared and a burr raised on the edge for really quality scraping duty. I have about 10 of them that i have used for this purpose..... Aloha, Mike
I have a old record #4.. The blade as is, is excellent.. Just me..
