I’m in the process of upgrading my spindle sander. I’m looking at the Delta B.O.S.S. and the Jet JBOs-5, any comments would be appriciated.

We have 2 of the Delta's and like them very much. They are mountable for shop applications and portable for job site work. When they are hooked up to the Fien shop-vac there is little or no dust, I am not to fond of the dust bag that is supplied with it. It seems to have plenty of power and comes with a free spindle kit if you order from Woodworkers Supply 1-800-645-9292. Others may have this deal also so check around. As far as the jet I cannot tell you, have only seen them but never had the chance to use one. Have a good one. Rick....................................................
I have a Ryobi, its by far not industrial quality, but it works well. I think it was under $200.00 new. its been a good tool, I have made many mantle clocks and other things and used it extensively. It has never let me down. For the price I don't think it can be beat. Good luck!

I own one Rigid tool from the big orange box - a spindle sander. If it wasn't a gift I probably would have returned it unopened. As it turns out it's pretty handy, especially with the belt on it. The table is not quite square to the spindle but it's close. When I get around to it, a shim or two should dial it right in.John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

I guess everyone gets lucky with an inexpensive tool once in their life. I am a firm believer of having all cast iron in my shop, but I couldn't pass up a bargain. Its the newest machine I have, the next newest machine is my bandsaw. My Grandfather bought it new in 1972.

Comparing it against the Delta, I went for that Rigid. I find that I use the belt as often as the spindle. Even the table tilt is nice for a quick chamfer. One concern I had was how square it was, but Rigid added a number of adjustment screws, for practically everything. Thus far, one of the few tools I haven't had to fix or improve on.

I have had a Delta BOSS for several years and have had no regrets, but it would be a bit more convenient if it had a tilt capability. You didn't say, but if you're doing production quantities the BOSS is a little too light and you'd be better off with a heavier duty floor model.
