Oscillating table top spindle sanders
Anyone have any experience with any of these? I’m not in the market for floor models.
The Delta B.O.S.S looks a little cheesy. The Jet sets up awfully tall for a table top unit.
Most I’ve seen run at about 1725 rpm which seem a little slow for general sanding. The PC hand held could be put into a table. It has variable speed up to 3600 rpm.
Looking for positive or negative comments on any brand.

Hi Mike,
I have the Delta B.O.S.S. and love it. Far from "cheesy" it is better built than I thought it would be for the price. I, however, an an occasional user. You, on the other hand, given your second career may want a more professional unit. I believe I've seen one made by Clayton in FWW.
I have had the Jet since Christmas and like it a lot. Originally was going to purchase the Delta but when I got to the store and saw them side by side the Jet seemed to offer much more value for the dollar. I should note that I'm only a hobbyist who gets into the woodshop only about one weekend a month, and for me it is an occasional use tool so I haven't run it for long periods of time.
It is a little tall, but for me this only seems to be a problem with large objects, and I plan to make a lower rolling base for it to set on. It is extremely quite and produces a wonderful finish, a 120 grit sleeve removes material very quickly (especially finger nails that brush against it). Have used it on such varied materials as 2" red oak, 1 1/2 cheery and 3/4 to 1/4" plywood. It really excelled at smoothing out some s-curved cherry brackets.
The only thing that I have experienced that I can even remotely be considered a drawback is finding rigid sanding sleeves in the 6" length - other than the ones Jet sells through its distributors, which are a little pricey. I have to admit, however, that I really haven't looked that hard and the sleeves I have clean up very easily so I expect a relatively long life from them.
Hey Mike,
Check today's classifieds on this forum. I just noticed Alan is offering one with the attachments for $75. I bought mine off the same forum for $100. I thought mine was a great deal. Yours would be a minor gloat if shipping is included! Good luck.
Don
Thanks Don! I offered to buy it from Alan. Hell of a deal!
