I have a can of Osmo polyx oil but the lid is sealed on and I will probably destroy it getting it off. I got an empty can from the paint store but it is plastic lined and they suggested it might not be good for oil based finish, and they didn’t have unlined. Does anybody know about that? If I don’t damage the can I can probably just use the new lid.

If that's a finish that will dry with exposure to oxygen, I'd get a space bag or whatever they're called.
I've stored varnish in those for years and nothing - not even the slightest dry bits around the cap.
Stop loss, that's what they're called.
Actually, thanks for the reminder - I have charged up tung and rosin varnishes with a big dose of japan drier and they didn't fare as well in a jar unless the aim is to sculpt the gelled varnish into a superball later.
by the way, I mention this because the varnishes have a stronger solvent (turpentine) than you'll get in most consumer products short of lacquers with something like acetone.
Osmo will be fine in a plastic container.
It is wax dissolved in medical grade paraffin.
There are a few siccatives (so it's not truly food-grade) but it's good in any container really.
