Other manner to insert a marquetry in a wood piece?
Bonjour!
This is my first post !
I use this jig to insert a marquetry in a wood piece http://www.leevalley.com/fr/Wood/page.aspx?p=41779&cat=1,101,43000,51208&ap=1
But i find that it is hard to follow the outer line of the piece you want to insert and make the exact shape with the router and bit . Because the router base hide the piece to be insert, so you do the cutting just by trying to follow the outside line .
So there is surely another way to do that job. My marquetry to insert is glue on a russian veneer of 2″ X3″ X 1/4″ thick, and lok like this one ( put on a old project of kid’s furniture )
Thanks

Which router and base?
You didn't mention which router and what sort of base you have. A clear base and excellent dust collection helps. If you are using a conventional 2+ hp router, you might find one of the newer 1.25hp routers, like the DeWalt DWP611PK, or the PC equivalent, to be handier for that type of work.
There's also the old way, using a coping saw.
Thank you Ralph for your anwser. Finaly i was able to do the job with those jig of Lee Valley.
I have the Freud 1 1/2 hp, with it's regular base.
I did the job with a very good and wider support of the base of the router. Even if you do not see the cutter you can fell easely the jig on the router .
