Anyone have any thoughts about this? I’m thinking of buying a cheap used pool table, putting 3 coats of outdoor varnish on all the bare wood and sticking it out on my deck. When we aren’t using it it will be covered (we live in the NW). The one I’m thinking of buying is in good shape, made in ’84, slate, no particle board. We’ll probably only use it for a few years and I’m only out $150. Thanks for any insights or help.

Cover the surface with astroturf instead of felt, and use croquet balls to overcome the coarser surface texture?? 8-D

When you cover it don't
When you cover it don't create a greenhouse effect.
The tarp shouldn't go all the way to the ground so there is some air movement under it.
Put something on top of the pool table first so the tarp isn't sitting right over the table and so there isn't a puddle in the middle. The solar gain is pretty high so get the tarp away from the table.
You can also put (I'm not sure how this would be done) a vent at the top of the tarp to let out the hot air.
If you don't do this right you can create a hot house/green house that will destroy just about anything under it.
Think about it, wood doesn't like warm moist air.
Nope, hadn't thought of that,
Nope, hadn't thought of that, thanks. The astroturf idea is interesting. They cover real outdoor tables with a poly propylene felt.
