Hi,
my name is Tomer and i want to set up a shop ,
but i have a few unconventional problems :
1. it has to be outdoor .
2. it can’t be enclosed with a permanent construction/building .
i’m aware that these 2 limitations make it almost impossible to set up a reasonable shop, but i hope maybe you have encountered a similar situation before.
i have a 10′ cabinet saw , a large workbench and all others power/hand tools a woodworker require.
my main problem is how to protect all tools and material against rain mainly .
but i would gladly take any advice which would help me set up a shop.
i’m pretty hopeless although i’ve seen here so many creative shop ideas.
Thanks for any replay,
Tomer Shahar.

Hi , How about using a temperary tent like cover ? .............and then use covers over the seperate machines ? But even then , I'm sure you will get some surface rust. Do you have a garage ? Check out " The Workshop " book. In it there is a gentleman who shares his woodworking shop with two cars . Maybe you have a co-op shop nearby where you can share shop space with others. Good Luck, colebearanimals
Thank you for your answer,
i think that the tent will be my temporary solution for now - that's all that i could come up with till now too.
maybe i'll build a wire frame and let some kind of climber plant take over it.
i don't have a garage but your idea reg the co-op shop is one i havn't thought about yet and it might be the a good one too.
thanks again.
The only thing I can think of is a tent. I know a professional woodturner in New Hampshire that sets up a tent every summer so he can work on his lathe out doors.
That said, I can't see this working as a long term solution. There's a difference between working outside occasionally and leaving all of your tools outside indefinitely. It's not just rain you want to protect your tools against. If you live in a humid climate, than just that exposure can cause your tool steel to rust. And what about theft?
A co-op shop is a great idea. Depending on where you live, these can be easy to come buy as there are always people on a tight budget looking to share shop space. If you can go in with one or a few other people, you can share tool or space or all of the above.
Is there any chance you can build a small shed, in which two walls open up completely. I've seen that setup. With the doors open and your tablesaw positioned correctly, you can rip a sheet of plywood through one door and out the other.
Good luck,

Matt,
as for the outdoor shop i'm in process of giving it up completely ,
reg the co-op shop i'm looking for one but as you probably know it's not very convenient to be depended on others
i'm thinking about your last offer and think i can build something like that
as long as it is defined as mobile structure - maybe building the walls on wheels or something like that - i'll be glad if you sent me more information from what you've experienced
thanks for you answer
