I’ve decided to purchase a shark guard for my Jet JTAS-10LT cabinet saw in lieu of a Brett or Penn State system. I have the saw on a mobile base in my garage shop so cannot leave in one location and also have a mobile Delta 1 1/2 HP single stage dust collector. My question is:
I’m wondering if anyone has an inexpensive idea for a way to support the 4″ dust collection hose over the saw table when I attach it from the dust collector to the 4″ port on the Shark Guard. My right extension table is 56″ long which seems like a long span. Doing a drop-down from the ceiling isn’t an option so making/buying an overhead arm to support the 4″ hose is what I’m thinking about. OR
Would a smaller hose and smaller port for the Shark guard be a better choice and connect it to a shop vac thereby leaving the 4″ hose connected to the table saw DC port? Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated?

Bruce,
Since being diagnosed with COPD, I have been doing quite a bit of experimentation w/ DC. My old setups, which did not include overhead DC on the TS were just not good enough. I recently changed the 2 1/4 shop-vac attachment on the overhead guard to 4" off of the DC. MAJOR IMPROVEMENT! I also upped the DC drop to the cabinet to 5", again with increased performance.
In your situation I would suggest two hoses off of the Delta DC inlet, thereby giving you 350+ cfm to both the cabinet and Shark guard.
Stay cool!

Jerry: Good suggestion. The DC has dual collection ports so one below and one above is easy to do. I wondered if there would be that much of a difference between the smaller port and the 4" (and makes sense that it should) would make that big a difference (probably why Lee started offering a 4" port for the guard).
Thanks for the input.
Trying to stay cool in S. FL but heard today it was 100 in NJ (orig. from NH and am still tryin to get use to the FL summers and hurricane season).

I use a bungee cord hung from a hook overhead. Somewhat of a Rube Goldberg setup but it works fine.

That's a great idea. Don't care about how it looks as long as it works in my application and is a quick set-up. Thanks, Bill.
Fit a 2 x 4 into a Triton Multi stand and attach the hose to it with cable ties. You can place the stand off to one side and the 2 x 4 acts like a crane arm.

Jim: Multi-stand....didn't think of that but I have a floor stand that I bought from Penn State and attached the big-gulp dust hood. Bet I could adapt that with a 2X4 as a support. Will check out the Multi stand. Thanks for the suggestion.

Damn, that's a good idea! Picked up a pair of these stands on a great deal a couple weeks ago and have been jury rigging DC for my TS in the meantime without even thinking of that. Thanks for the tip!

I just received my SharkGuard last week - it took 3 1/2 MONTHS for delivery, so be patient.
Mine was ordered for a Unisaw. Apparently there is a "quick release Delta splitter" and a model with a bolt on splitter. Be sure to specify which you have when ordering.
The product is solid and Lee is VERY good about responding to questions and he shipped the correct parts pronto.
I have not tackled the DC hose problem yet. My issue is complicated by the fact I have my router on the same run as the saw - each have separate blast-gates.

Hi Bruce
I have used a Shark Guard for a few years. I have pretty much the same set up as you--cabinet saw with 1.5 HP DC. After trying most possible variables, I am currently running the DC to the cabinet saw base, and a shop vac to the Shark Guard. In my experience, my DC just can't support both really well. It is much better than no collection on top but there is still a bunch of fine dust that escapes (at least for me). Some day I will get a cyclone, then will run both simultaneously.
One big plus to using a shop vac is that the hose is much more manageable than a 4" hose, especially if your set up must be moved.
Best wishes,
David
