Like an idiot, I stained my newly installed Oak h/w floor by staining with the grain for about two feet, then going at a right anglr to the planks until on the other side of the room. Then came back, did another two or three feet, same thing. When done, the areas where the stains ovelapped now look like dark waves. Other than sanding and starting over, anyone got ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Andy,
I'm sorry that I don't have any good news for you, -- been there, tried to rectify that!
There are two things you can try.
1. If the stain you used is oil-based you can try rubbing out the area with mineral turps -- success will depend on how dry the stain is.
2. Overstain to blend in the dark area -- very tricky and will leave you with a much darker floor but might be worth trying as No.3. has got to be re-sand and try again.
Hard luck, mate, I feel for you!
*Just finished sanding my new oak floor, and stained (oil based)according to directions-apply 5-15 minutes and wipe off excess....Well this worked great.. but my wife picked up the remaining 1/3 of the floor and left the stain overnight, with the result of uneven staining for the portion that she finished. What are my alternative to blending the uneven stained floor? Thanks,Brad
