Hello,
I’m planning to set up shop in my garage and will insulate it and heat it. Does anyone have recommendation for weatherstripping the overhead doors (I have three 9′ x8′ doors). I’ve seen the vinyl strips that rub against the door face as it rides up and down, but they look a little chinzy. I’ve also seen some made out of brush type material.
I live in MI’s Upper Peninsula/Lake Superior snowbelt and am pretty exposed. Lots of fierce wind and blowing snow, so I’d like something that will hold up and keep the snow from pouring in around the gaps in the doors. Would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks,
Archie

The brush type is the best Check Zero Weatherstripping
Used it on my one car garage years ago Also added foam panels on the inside panels for insulation. Due to the added weight, you might have to re tension the coil springs a bit
Steinmetz.
I had the brush type and they took a set and began to leak. In my new house, I have some rubber type ... kinda like weatherseal on a car, it is keeps the shop warm and dry. It also keeps the bugs out, which the brush type did not.

I use them "but they look a little chinzy." on my hand made 'Carriage Doors".. 10 foot? strip for a reasonable cost from a local BIG BOX.. About 3 inches wide with a sturdy base to screw it in place.. They work great!
I have no idea what they are called or who made them.. I think I got them at Home Imports (Depot?) or whatever it's called.. Only color I found was white! They were very flexable and seal about as good as anything eles (in my price class) used before! I think I found them in a bin all bent over and hanging in the Isle and I hit my head on one.. AND then I noticed them..
Going for a hunk of cutoff now.. I save everything!...
White, Wood Pattern in the mounting part. I found one not cut and 9 foot long. Width is 3 inches, Mounting part is 2 inches wide and about 3/8 inch thick. Sealing strip is 1 inch long.. About 1/16 inch thick.. I just haled it out of my COLD garage and it was still FLEXIBLE!
Big Boxes DO carry SOME GREAT stuff! Like my $99 Ryobi routers that I LOVE! ( I have more than several ).
Just me! By the way.. The strips on on the INSIDE of doors.. I stained my doors Purple just to piss off the locals!
By the way,, I lay a full length of 2X4 on the strip at the bottom of the doors just to help keep the wind out! I still to cold to work out there in the winter.. I HATE THE COLD! I need a warm woman from Flordia that will put up with me!
