Posted this problem in knots several weeks ago and didn’t get much help.
I need advice from an electronics ‘techie’. Have a 14.4 battery pack that won’t quick charge. Had all the cells replaced twice. Put it on the charger, quick charge light comes on for about 2 minutes and then goes out. If I leave it on the charger for 24 hours, it will charge via the trickle charge. Have another pack that will quick charge in an hour , so that eliminates the charger. There is a thermistor in the pack to
prevent overcharging, charging while too hot, etc. I believe it is faulty and needs replacing. I know just enough about electronics to be dangerous. Anyone know what size/type of thermistor I need. Of course, Porter Cable doesn’t even show this part in their exploded parts diagram. They want you to spend the big bucks and replace the whole pack. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try calling a P/C factory service center. I live near one and they have always been very helpfull. They have checked out my batteries and charger and other customers for no charge!
Cjohn - Thanks for the tip. The nearest PC service center is about 250 miles from me. I have a friend who has called them on other problems.
I'll get the phone number from him and give them a call. Thanks again.
You may also go online at portercable.com and receive that number
Thanks again. Called the P/C service center in Kansas City, yesterday,
with no luck. Service rep was totally disinterested. Said they don't
open up the battery packs to work on them. Said they have no internal
parts or parts diagram, which I already knew from looking at the exploded parts diagram on the internet. Got the standard company line of buying a new pack. They want the consumer to spend $60 or $70 on a new battery when I think a $2 part would fix the problem, if I could just find someone with the right knowledge. Oh, well.
If we could get together somehow I will give you the number of a friend of mine who is a tech for p/c (20+yrs). I just don't want him to be overwhelmed
That would be helpful, but I can't think of a way to communicate without one or the other of us posting an e-mail address or telephone number on this forum. I went by a Battery + store on Saturday. Asked the young man who was replacing a cordless shaver battery, what he knew about thermistors. He said 'What's a thermistor?'. I walked out. I'm pursuing a couple of other ideas. E=mailed an electronics component company for help. Doubt if that produces much. Also, I plan to go by the local Vocational Tech school and talk to someone in the electronics dept. Much thanks for all of your help and suggestions.
