did a 3layer of DO. finishing with wet sanding from 400grit – 1200grit using mineral oil as lubricant.
wipe down with paint thinner a few rounds but slight oily residue still persist. suspect wood has slight open pores.
planning to use wax as top coat. but afaid will have bonding issue as the surface is still slightly oily.
any thoughts?
tq

loving the DO finish..they are so 'natural' look as opposed to plasticky look of PU. when u guys says 'rubbing out'(final finish) does it mean wet sanding like what i posted above? or there's other method
tq
hope to hear all the 'guru's advise.
Danish Oil
It's not really a finish that you rub and if you wax it you will have trouble renewing it when the time comes. Make sure you wipe off the excess oil as well as possible.

am i using the correct material(paint thinner) to remove the oil residue?
ok..got it
so how should i finish the DO if not planning to wax or any other top coat
Maintenance
There is nothing to do after the last coat - maybe once every other year you can recoat the finish-

did a wet sanding with mineral oil after 5 layers. ended with 1000grit. after wipe down with paint thinner notice some spots are matt n some are shiny spots.
is it because i didnt sand down enuf?
Spots
There hasn't been much drying time ? Usually with DO it doesn't require sanding ?
Try using the tips of your fingers with the 1000 paper or the finest steel wool to rub down into the lower areas. Try a small sample spot at first because we're not sure what's going on here.

this is wat happen after sandown. what went wrong n how to rectify it. tq
Sand Down
That photo displays a normal result. The grains are deeper than the sanded down top coat. You don't have to fix that but if you want a smoother finish with less grain void you either fill the grain w/grain filler or recoat with more finish. I would suggest you've done enough and it looks good.

understood..thanks
can i use film building materials like lacquer, undercoat pu to apply to fill in the void to have a flat finish. i know it will kill the 'natural' finish but if priority is to have a flat finish does it makes sense to do it? DO is left fully cured then only apply
