Painted joint stair skirt question (how to mesh the joint)
The question may be out of place here, but i will give it a shot
I needed 16 ft stair skirts and they did not have any on hand.
I bought 12s instead but now need to joint them together and produce a seamless finish.
I can cut them at an angle to join them instead of a butt joint, but i would like to hide the actual seam
QUESTION: With these already painted, what should I do to blend the joint?
Cut a notch, putty, paint?
Light putty over existing pretty flush seam, and then paint over it again?
Its mdf for what it is worth
I can cut them so they join right and the end of a stair to minimize how much is seen

I would make a lap (shiplap) joint carefully cut so that it fits tightly. Glue and fill any gaps that remain and then sand smooth and re-paint. Don't see any other way if you want to hide the joint.
Any opposition to.a scarf joint instead? Its 1x12x12 material and i dont have a neat way to accomplish it on something this size.
I did a long scarf once by building a router jig..about the same as a "slab flattening" jig, but at an angle. My scarf was about a foot long and I drove a few air nails before clamping the glueup to keep it from sliding. It went well.
