I am at my wits end. I am a pretty good woodworker. I usually can build anything I see. But finishing is a my weak spot. I used to finish everything with a stain and poly when I lived up in the great white north. Now that I am living in Florida everything I’m building for people is to be painted in “Florida colors”. I don’t mind, it’s their money, but I look to end of the building phase with fear. Everything I have used so far has left me upset with the results. I have been using laytex primer and paint. The choices of oilbase paint locally is very poor. I can’t even get a oil base paint in a gallon size.
I can put on the primer and color coat and days later I will put something like another board on it and it sticks to the paint. I tried different brands and drying times. But it’s still soft. It shouldn’t do that.
How can I get a good hard paint layer of paint? Please don’t say it’s the heat and humidity. I can’t do anything about that.
Thank you.

Skunkman,
I would think the best source for the answer to your question would be the place that sold you the paint, or a local paint shop, a local painter, or the customer service dept. of the company that manufactured the paint that you used. Have you asked them?
