panel door cutters for passage doors?
I may be laboring under a misconception. Hoping someone can clear it up. On the verge of buying Freud RS/RP 1000 door set, for cabinet doors. Have been thinking it can also be used for passage doors, simply by flipping the boards and cutting the same profile on the other side. Am I off base here. Of course, this would mean the panel edges (and the slot) would have to be thicker than 1/4 inch. Would the profile not be deep enough for a door to look right? Better to go for two separate tooling sets? (May need to cancel my order?)
Thanks, KM

Looking at a Freud catalogue the cabinet door profile is approx 7/16" high. For 1 3/8" doors it is about 5/8 high and 1 3/4" thickness it is 13/16 .Also the tenon size stays at approx 1/4 on all doors .I would suggest that the cabinet profile is a little small for passage doors even if you can leave out the mortise cutter and run a groover afterwards.I hope this makes some sense for you.

Yes. It does. Thanks. I did some more studying on it after sending the note. Opted to not get the Freud RS set, and instead go with the HSS cutters for my Amana Profile Pro cutterhead, three different knife sets, one for passage doors, one for cabinet panel doors and one for glass doors. Even saved a bit of money in the bargain. Also think that for the Raised Panel cutter I will cancel the Freud RP1000 and get the Amana 6-1/4 insert-knife Raised Panel cutterhead. The profiles are taller, stepped, to give the option of doing thicker panels for passage doors, or thinner panels for cabinets. The cutting edge is also longer (or deeper), 2" total, to give a wider relieved area around the raised field. Thanks for responding and helping guide the way.
