I have a Leigh FMT that I have used to make some face frames using mortise and tenon joints. It seems to be a very quick way to make a solid joint. So, I plan to use the FMT for mortise and tenons to make some shaker style cabinet doors.
Is there a preferred method for joining the door panel to the rails ans tiles if mortise and tenon joinery is used for rails and stiles?
I could use 1/4″ ply and cut slots for the panel between the mortises using a slot cutter or straight bit. Or, I could rabbet the inside edge of the rails and stiles and inset the panel. Those are the ways that I can think of, but is there a standard or preferred method to add the panel?
Thanks

The groove is the most common method and the rabbett is preferred for glass panels. Solid wood panels must have room to expand and contract.

Get Andy Rae's book and it will tell you everything you need to know. Books are still the best and first tool you should own. For folks who don't read there are videos and DVD's to help out.
Thanks, I have a shelf full of books, even read a few of them. Of the ones I have, only a couple describe the process for doors using M&T joinery and then there is more emphasis on the M&T than the panel. I will take a look at Mr. Raes book.
