I am making door way panels for a rehab we are working on 2′ wide 9′ tall. I plan on using poplar rails and styles and MDF for the panels. I am great at making the panels. Does anyone have a step by step for making the rails & styles? I have the matching set of bits just having the right knowledge of how to measure and cut them.
HELP!
Thanks

Go check out master Marc and his episode on raised panel doors. He goes into the measuring aspects as well.

I do not know what size and make you have for cutters but with my cutter set I have to make the rails 3/4" longer than the distance between the two stiles in order to allow for the tenon. If the distance across the stiles is 24" and the stiles are 3-1/2" wide then the rails will be 24-7=17", then make them 17-3/4" this will allow for the tenon and the stiles will have a 1/4" x 3/8" deep groove for the rails and panel. All rails and stiles will have this groove in them along with the profile on the good side. Hope this gives you a little insight as to your measurements. The stiles need to be the full length you want such as 9'. I always cut the rail tenons first and then do all the other parts.

I have http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?Offerings_ID=2146&TabSelect=Details for the rail and stick and http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?sku=10604&cs=1 for the panel.

The groove or dado is probably 3/8" deep, check the instruction sheet or make a sample cut. If 3/8" then the information I provided previously will apply. Good luck. My cutters are for a shaper as I do not use the router for making doors.
