Hey Larry,
Shop Notes magazine had one featured years ago. I have it sitting in the back of my truck if you want more info on it.
I've intended to make it for years but I have no room left to store it in my shop, but someday I'll build it.
In the meantime the way I cut large panels is on a homemade cutting table. It's a 2 x 4 frame 3' wide by 7' long. held together with biscuits. The table frame sits on top of a pair of collapsible table legs so it stores flat. Just sit the 4x8 panel on top, set the saw blade height for one tooth thicker than the material your cutting, and cut away.

Dan: Thanks for the reply, I use a simular system now to rip my 4x8's, do you know
the magazine year and number that has the info in it?, if so I will research it.
thanks

Larry, I posted a drawing and a picture on knots a while back. Post 15836.18, Scott Franklin was nice enough to resize them for me.At the time I posted the attachments I did not know how to size them properly.
Check this post out, you can build your own for $100.00 or less.

Mike: Thanks for the information on the panelsaw, unfortunately I am new to this
site and I am having a problem accessing the past info at 15836.18, how do we get
this? I tried the search button, but doing something wrong!, by for now

Don't laugh Len ,I don't know how either. Go to home taunton home page, look for Sandbox forum, I believe it is in the upper right corner. This forum helps dummies like us.If you still have problems I will e-mail you the drawings or I might be able to repost the drawings.

Larry I figured out how to find archived posts. Go to Knots home page, click on advanced search. You will find it at the left upper corner in orange highlights, under the login -logout etc,After clicking on advanced search, scroll down to area that says enter #. Type in 15836.18 and you got it.
Next time you need assistance such as posting pics or whatever ,the Sandbox forum is very helpful.

I got Scott Landis' THE WORKSHOP BOOK for Xmas. There's a sketch of a vertical panel saw on page 81.
Wooden splinter: Thanks for the info on the panel saw, I have that book also, now
I just have to fine it!, just moved and all my books are in storage.

The winter 2004 edition of Workshop Projects by Woodworkers Journal has an article on page 48 on building a panel saw. It is involves utilizing an extruded aluminum kit that you order from them - 299.99. I bought the magazine two weeks ago at Lowe's, so you may be able to find it still.
Wilkesland: I am on my way to our local Lowes store! Thanks for the information.
bye for now
