Parallelogram jointer table- worth the extra cost?
After years of jointing and surfacing boards with hand planes, I’m ready to splurge for an 8″ jointer. I’ve decided to get one with spiral cutters to save myself the grief of ever having to change and adjust the knives. I am having difficulty deciding, however, whether spending an additional $200 to get a jointer with parallelogram tables (vs dovetail ways) is worth the investment.
After reading the FWW article about flattening wide boards with a narrow jointer, it seems like I’ll be adjusting the tables a lot to accommodate 8+” boards which makes think the parallelogram tables are worth it.
What say yee?

Look at the thread entitled Jointer out of Parallel. The poster has a DJ20 jointer, which has the parallelogram style. He's going to have a relatively easy time adjusting the beds back into parallel. The other style has ways that you will have to shim. The parallelogram jointer also keeps the tables closer to the cutter wheels throughout the range of adjustment. That's a minor safety advantage.
