Hi all I posted this over in breaktime also.
Question. I bought the craftsman light duty laminate trimmer from sears. Well the other day I was in Home Depot and saw the same trimmer wearing Ryobi clothes (Ryobi # TR31K). This was no surprise to me but packaged with the Ryobi kit is a two handle base they call a woodworking base. It seemed really useful. So I got on the Ryobi site and veiwed the manual for the tool in pdf but could not find a part #.
Does any one have this tool and its wood working base, and could you help me identify the part # so I could try to order it from Ryobi?
I guess I could just call them but I hate not to be armed with all the information I can get before I call.
Thanks all

Just call them and be done with it!
Webby, I'm sorry you got such an abrupt greeting from Rick during your first post here at Knots. I can't help you with the part number, but wanted to welcome you and encourage you to join in here.
Depending on the competence of your particular HD staffers, you might be able to get a part number from them. Otherwise, the Ryobi folks might be your best bet. I'd skip the part about owning a Craftsman though -- might lead to confusion on their end, LOL.
PS: I couldn't find that particular product manual at Ryobi. Is your stated model# correct? Also, they have some a Tool Forum there, you could post in that. Look in the tiny menu bar near the top of the home page.

Hi all,
Thanks forestgirl, I have posted here before but it was a while back.
I know I should just buy the whole unit, which I wouldn't mind to have but I thought I would atleast check on the base, actually it is a subbase. I also apologize for the # mixup, it is TR 31K at Home depot but at the Ryobi site it is just TR 31.
Thanks all.

I prefer the term succinct. Brief and to the point. What's wrong with just getting the job done the simplest way possible? I do problem solving for a living and just go for the most direct source to find what I need after doing the necessary amount of research.
If you were his boss, rick, I could understand the "order" but it was pretty rude here on the boards, (IMHO, of course). His profile showed one post here at Knots (not accurate, evidently). Not a particularly graceful way to welcome someone (again, IMHO).forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I read your abrupt retort the same way FG did. I would add the word "condescending."
I did not see a problem with Rick's responce. Direct and to the point. Some of use just want to help, not carry on a long winded conversation because we may be bored, lonesom or "looking" for a web buddy.

Thanks...at least one person isn't reading all kinds of hidden meanings into my response.
Funny how brevity is mistaken for rudeness and in turn the overly sensitive turn into the insensitive rude ones.

"Just call them and be done with it!" How, exactly, was that helpful? Just curious.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Instead of going on and on, thread after thread, just phone the company and find the answer from the source. Sort of like the posts about " table saw vibration ". I checked "everything" and can't find the cause. Changed the belts, bearings, tore down the whole thing and still can't find the problem, HELP.
After about 40 posts and nothing works, it finally hits the guy to check the motor schieve. Gee, I forgot to mention the vibration started after I swapped out the motor. I forgot the tighten the set screw. Thanks for all the help. You people are great.
I could go on and on but the saws running, must get back.

You will probably find that it is cheaper to buy the entire router kit at HD than to pay the cost of buying the base as a repair part. Also, if the base has several components they will each have to be ordered under a separate part number and they'll tack on shipping costs.
A year ago I found that Ryobi wanted $100 for a simple side wing for a tablesaw saw that cost $300 for the entire saw with one wing on it already. Typically, if you price out a tool as parts, the cost will be some 10 times greater than the store price for the complete tool.
This isn't a dump on Ryobi by the way, with the exception of Makita tools, every other time I've gone after parts from any maker the cost was totally out of line with the value of the tool.

"... I've gone after parts from any maker the cost was totally out of line with the value of the tool."
Amen! I'm particularly put off by Porter Cable now because of their pricing of a replacement battery pack for my drill/driver. PCs price is $55-$60 for a 12V battery pack. I picked up a replacement 12V battey pack for a drill/driver I got at Harbor Freight and it cost $6. Similar 12V NiCd packs, just that one of them doesn't have the big ticket name on it.

Bill...you might want to consider having the batteries rebuilt as a viable option for other types that can't be picked up at HF. I just sent some out to
http://www.voltmanbatteries.com/index.htm I haven't got them back yet so I don't know how good they are but there's quite a few others offering this service.
"...consider having the batteries..."
Batteries Plus charges $45 to rebuild a PC pack. The company you mentioned charges $35 plus shipping. For that amount, I can go to HF and buy two new driver/drills plus extra batteries. HF sells 12V battery packs for $8; get one with the PC label and it costs $55. Go figure.
By the way, Voltman Batteries has an 'interesting' tag line at the bottom of the home page:

I said "for batteries you can't get at HF, Voltman is a viable option. Shipping is included in the price, not extra. You do have to pay to ship it to them in the first place. You think PC batteries are expensive, panasonic are way up there. I should be geeting them back soon. They claim the batteries will be better than the originals and they offer s 90 day guarantee opposed to many who offer only a 30 day.

John, you ought to try parts from Delta for an old jointer.
It's been over four years and I still cringe when I think of it.
Old parts. Sure. BOHICA, fella.

A: His lips are moving.
Jet may be another exception, though I couldn't swear to it. They provided several parts for my Old Blue contractor's saw, and the prices weren't bad at all. Of course the motor, that's another story. But they were nice about that too, recommended I call the "scratch 'n' dent" place up the road from them and see if he had one in stock. He didn't, but he simply ordered one from Jet wholesale, and sold it to me for about $25 over wholesale. I was very happy to drive over and pick it up.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Did you try to search the Sears part site for a part number?
