I need a new motor pulley assembly for my Delta 46-700 lathe. I’ve just gone through an online search starting at the Delta site and have found the part numbers and prices. I tried calling a few authorized repair centers but they weren’t really any help.
Before I order the parts from the Delta site (its so impersonnal and a bit pricey)does anybody out there have any tips or pointers on another source for these parts.
I did a search in the archives here for Delta lathe parts and found a number for a Harold Baker (419-634-7228) but it was from 2002 and the number wasn’t a working number.
thanks in advance, Hugh

What part are you in need of?

Dave,
The link didn't work. I'll try the phone number. I need a new motor pulley. Its a variable speed pulley. Kind of a wimpy design. The old one just self destructed.
thanks alot, hugh
Sorry, I haven't tried his web site in awhile. Is this a step cone pulley or the variable speed with the spring inside and as the belt is tensioned it changes pitch? If it's the spring type, Tourque Transmissions in Ohio supplied that part to Delta and still manufactures them. Let me know.DJK
Dave, yes its the spring type. Do you have more info?
Thanks, hugh
http://www.acetoolrepair.com lists #434-08-430-0004 as the motor pulley for $86.70. Go to their site and check it out.DJK
Dave,
Thanks. I ordered all I needed from them. I appreciate your help on this.
Thanks very much. I'll let you know how the rest of this works out.
see ya, hugh
The variable speed pulley used on that lathe is probably unique to that machine and not a standard part, so you may not have any choice but to buy it from Delta. Buying it from a Delta service center isn't likely to save you any money, they may even mark it up.
Your only chance of finding it for less is to search on e-Bay, an amazing number of parts show up there. I'd search for the phrase Delta lathe pulley or Delta lathe part as being the most likely to turn up what you need.

John,
Thanks, I've been looking on Ebay. Nothing yet. I too suspect that this part is not going to be an off the shelf part. If I don't make some headway soon I'll probably just go through Delta. I may be on to something now with Dave though. He seems to be familiar with this part. Thanks, Hugh
