Has anyone else had a problem with their password expiring on a regular basis? It appears that if you don’t visit the website for x amount of days (not sure how long – a week? two weeks? three?) the website security system automatically invalidates your password. I use a password manager so I know I’ve entered the correct password. This has happened to me repeatedly since the new website was released and I’m getting really tired of having to reset my password just because I haven’t accessed the site for a while. The Fine Homebuilding website uses the same underlying security system and when I went to log in the other day, you guessed it, my login was denied. Here’s the error message:
- We are unable to locate you using the credentials you provided. Please correct your information and try again.
I spent over 30 years in IT and have created websites myself and I know keeping a site secure can be difficult. But no other website that I subscribe to requires the user to create a new password with such frequency. In fact, I’m not aware of any of my subscriptions where the password is automatically invalidated. Curious if anyone else has had this issue.
FYI. I did reach out to Customer Support in March and this is a portion of their reply:
Your feedback is appreciated, we will address your concerns and will be taking action to solve theses kind of issues.
Apparently, they’re still working on it?

When I login there's a little box that says, "remember for two weeks". So I assume that it requires regular checking. I have the same experience with other forums - login every two weeks. But not with a new password.
@stantheman
I have a "Remember Me" checkbox, but no mention of two weeks. Not to get too technical, but many websites use a session cookie with your user validation so that you don't have to login every time. That cookie will usually expire after x hours/days/weeks depending on the website. But that should have nothing to do with the password being invalidated. BTW, I'm using Chrome. Would be interested which browser you're using.
Safari (apple). I just re-logged in this week so will take note in two weeks.
Happens on a regular basis. Also with Fine Homebuilding.
