Hi Ernie,
I’m finishing a cherry hall table top with minwax antique oil and have applied several coats, wet-sanding with progressively finer grit sandpaper. I was wondering if you thought a top coat of paste wax would be of any benefit. Thanks for your time,

Paste wax is fine. It is a great finale to making a piece of furniture and gives some additional protection while making the surface feel even more sensual. I go for the old paste type which is applied in small patches and buffed vigorously. The only downside is that it has to be removed before more finish can be applied. Oil is a very repairable finish and one only needs to sand in more oil if no wax is present. For this reason I do not wax my personal furniture.
With best regards,
Ernie Conover
