PC 557 biscuit joiner issue and question
I love my 557 but when I tried to take the standard blade off to put on the ff blade, I couldn’t get the retaining screw to turn. This has never been a problem before, and if I keep forcing it, I’m going to strip the screwhead.
Has anyone had this issue or have any advice? I’m sure I’m turning it in the right direction.
Thanks,
Brian

More info.
It's a type 2 with the hex head release screw.
Thanks, Brian
The 557 has a standard thread, meaning, righty tighty, lefty loosey. There are some flats on the washer but the spindle lock should work. Could be you have some debris in the threads. Normally, it's easy. The machine has to be in the large cutter position but you know that, since you couldn't get to the bolt, otherwise.Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I had the same problem with my 557 a few years back the first time I tried to change to the small blade. Actually started rounding the hex head. I was able to undo the blade by using a crescent wrench on the flats of the retaining washer and turning. Worked great! Hope this helps.
I actually have had the same problem with my PC. I was trying to force it, but felt like the screw would strip or the allen key would break. I was trying to change to the small blade. I ended up using half of a number 10, and didn't change the blade. I haven't tried to get it off since then, and haven't had to. But I was definitely turning in the right direction, and just kind of put it off. I wonder if ours came off the same line, and the guy at the blade attaching station had their air wrench a little too juiced. Mine is really on there...maybe a shot of WD40?
TPJ, I had the same problem with a Metabo-aka Ridigid large ROS(not the new one made in china) and a hex socket in a hammer drill or a pnumatic wrench with it's slap, slap, slap at LOW speed did the trick to loosen the base pad for replacement. Paddy
