PC 557 Joiner – sloppy sliding mechanism
Hi
I just received a PC557 plate joiner and find that there is a lot of play in the sliding mechanism. This affects the accuracy of the joints that it makes. I am a bit disappointed in the quality of this mechanism. There is also play in the fence. I am considering sending it back and buying another brand. Any suggestions?

It's not right, so send it back.
I have a 557. I can't say that my slide has enough slop to affect the cut, there is a clearance fit. The drop down fence has a weak spot. On the ends are some lobes that have a channel. They are the pivot points for that fence. I have part # 83152 on order because one of my lobes broke. The fence wiggles all over with this broken lobe. I've had the machine for five or six years and use it regularly in a full time shop. I like being able to switch to the face frame size biscuit. The mechanism that has to be changed when you use the smaller blade takes some care in setting correctly. The slide won't work properly if this arm isn't in the right hole. I don't have any complaints about anything until the lobe broke. I don't know how it happened, probably got dropped or banged going to a job site.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I have one of these, and there should be no slop. I had no trouble at all with mine, even with the FF blade and a face frame. I agree with the others, it's bad take it back and get another one or get it repaired.
