I have a Porter Cable 690LR router with the fixed base only. Thinking it’s time to buy a plunge base I headed out to ebay. I thought I heard my 690 would fit in an 890 base. If this is true, is there any reason I should buy an 890 base instead, assuming they cost about the same?
Of course any other ideas or commentary about my situation is welcome… I really don’t have the cash to buy another router, and thought this would be the cheapest way to add to my bag of routing tricks.
Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure, but I don't see the 690 working in the 890 base. I have both and the 890 series is slimmer(I think). I am traveling and can't confirm. If you have a wood craft or tool store close go by and check. I wanted to get a D-handle (690) and use with the 890 and it would not work.
You can buy a 6931 Type 2 plunge base for the 690. Unfortunately, they are about $100.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
