I just bought a PC small size belt sander and love how it handles. However, I noticed that the wholw body gets really hot during extended use (more than 3 minutes), and I have to hold it by the front handle and rear dust port. Anyone else have this problem?

I have the 4x24, and it gets hot too. I thought something was wrong when I first used it, but it's held up for 20 years now.
Okay, thanks. I thought I may have bought a lemon.

Mine gets hot also.Mike
Yes, mine too but it has gotten a lot better with time. When I get some downtime I plan on replacing the factory metal platen with a graphite one- it should make a big difference.
Where can i get one of those graphite platens?

Klingspor has them http://www.woodworkingshop.com/cgi-bin/1FEAEB38/mac/qryitems.mac/itemDisplay as does Porter Cable for it's larger sanders- it can be cut down to size. You might check Amazon, too. This link may help. http://www.taunton.com/finehomebuilding/how-to/articles/survey-belt-sanders.aspx then click on "Quick fix for a platen that is not flat"
