I posted this over in Knots, but thought maybe others might see it here.
OK; I said that I’d report what I learned at work. Word from my manager is that Porter Cable production will be moved to Mexico. He’s so sure of this that we will not be carrying the PC line when our current stock runs out. Looking real hard at Bosch to replace with.
If you’re looking at a PC tool purchase, you might want to get it now, before the dumbing down happens.

That just sucks. Thanks for the heads up.
Dumbing down? What exactly does that mean in this case?
cheapening/less finished etc.
And why would it make things any "less finished" or cheapened by having beeen made in Mexico? Sounds a bit bigoted.
Whatever.
Quality vs GradeRemember you can purchase high quality and low grade at the same time.McDonalds comes to mind. High quality in the sense that the food is consistent from burger to burger, fry to fry, low grade in the sense that it's not a 5 star resturant, it's fast food. You can buy high quality high grade or low grade tools too. The high grade stuff will cost you more...Be careful not to confuse the two.

Not always so,
Many mfgs have moved operations to Mexico with little issue.I consulted at one client in El Paso Tx. They made all their parts in the US (big injection molding operation) and shipped the parts over the border to Juarez for assy.Quality on their product has actually gone up. Not because of the move, but because the parts had to be better for easy assy. They had no choice really, all their competition was already in low cost locations so for them to stay in business they had to move.Mark

I bought a brand new Ford Aerostar in 1989. Biggest POS I ever owned. I bought a new VW Jetta made in Mexico and it was the most trouble free car I've ever owned.
I actually own a 20ft Mexican made ladder and use it to prune trees on my property. Never once thought maybe I should run down to the hardware store for an American made one.
You and the original OP have absolutely NO clue about anything Mexican. Talk about leaping to conclusions.
I see we're well versed in the art of internet debate. No need to address the points and/or facts presented for discussion (ladders are not houses nor are they manufactured using any similar process or equipment) -- go for the personal attack, that always works best. Very convincing.
Before you call someone stupid you should at least learn how to spell.
