Jr,
I think Norm did a project like that some time ago...might want to check http://www.newyankeeworkshop.com and see if they have plans there
Hi jr,
Thomas Moser has a book called Measured shop drawings for American Furniture which is helpful. The best book by far, with complete instructions, is called Beds and is written by Jeff Miller. I made a Cherry Pencil post bed using these plans and it came out great. The book has everything you need to know. I would recommend taking your time to make jigs for cutting the posts on a table saw. I made a rough jig and cut them on a bandsaw then planed and sanded them to finish dimensions. This ended up being pretty time consuming in order to get them just right. I found that the cherry wood was difficult to plane without tear out. I keep my planes razor sharp and still had some problems. I used normal 6" bolts with washers instead of bed bolts. The normal bolts do the exact same thing for a fraction of the price. Take your time and extra care fitting the head board. I ended up wasting one by removing too much wood while rasping the "ears" that fit into the posts. Good luck. Please let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
thanks for the tip(s)....i have millers book and was just looking for an alternative point of view...i wasnt totally sold on the headpost design
will keep your experience in mind as i begin

There was a pencil post bed on the front cover of FWW some 12 or 15 years ago. Check the magazine index.
