Check out this web site, lots of cyclone info. http://cnets.net/~eclectic/woodworking/cyclone/index.cfm

thanx joe already been there.
Mick,
After looking all around, I just bought the 2 HP system from Oneida. There may be other good ones out there, but I can personally say that the assistance they provided me with the unit selection and ductwork was outstanding. Good ol' fashion service that's hard to come by nowadays.

I have a tiny penn State unit, the little portable one. It is quiet, has good volume and seems quite well made. It is the only dust collector I have used so I don't have much to compare it to but it gets heavy use in my shop for what it is worth.

I don't have a cyclone but I do have a Penn State and couldn't be more pleased with it compared to others. The price was right and the quality is excellent on my unit.
I suggest you call Penn State if you have questions. I have heard Oneida has great customer service, but after all you paid for it with the higher price. Penn State is a small company in Pa. with about 6 or 7 employees. They should be able to answer your questions as they answered all mine. If not, for the extra cash you can get a Oneida that is about the same in performance. But from what I've heard, they do have great customer service.
Cyclones are actually quite simple. The question I would ask myself is, "how far do I need to pursue technical service as opposed to the extra cash I have to drop for that particular brand"? If the answer is I know how to set it up and replace the simple parts, I don't! If Penn State can provide me with the tech support I need I don't! If I were still confused after answering the above, I would probably go Oneida. Yes, they do have great customer service as has been discussed here on the Forum many times.
Good Luck...

thank you for your info, i have existing dc and ducts . barrell top collector DELTA 2 stage with 6 in ducts / home made gates , minimum flex hose . Works o.k. , max run about 30ft. Emptys unisaw and 6in jointer, 12.5 in planer , rad arm saw , 18 in band saw, and floor sweep, using only 1 at a time . Upgraded to a large filter bag by AFF, really improved suction. Large fan only 1 hp at 240v/ 8 amps, unit rated at 750 cfm so i guess i am getting 350 - 400 with large bag filter. These collectors are not made any more according to delta to bad . So in regards to your info, i think i can go alright with minimum tech help etc. I am rigt between oneida and psi so i would pick up myself to save shipping , when i decide.......... Do you know where woodsucker is made at ? maybe i can drive there too. ha ha .thanx Mick

I think with reliance of your existing knowledge you are in the drivers seat for saving a few dollars. If you are that close to the two distributors, you could even go to both and perform a test on the floor with no commitment to either and then make the choice from "front line" experience.
I know plenty of "wood-suckers" but am not familar with the DC! ha.. ha... ha..ha..ha..
