I’m not good at it and don’t want to learn or hafta buy into lighting equipment. Anyone know of any sort of studio in the TwinCities (MN) area where I can bring pieces to get professionally photographed ?
I thought about hiring a photographer to come to the house, but none of the rooms or the lighting works that well for taking good pictures (already tried..)
All ideas welcome!

Some of the best stills I have ever taken used diffused sunlight just before or after sunset.
Who needs lights :).
Most commercial photographers will have their own studios, or access to one. They just wont be cheap. The costs are in setting up, so its better to do multiple objects in one sitting.
Costly outsourcing or DIY..
Gonna try the free sunlight :)
If you are willing to try your own setup, look at some videos on "light painting".. It's a technique to get around full studio lighting. It may not be what you are looking for, but, it's one option.
Cell phone cameras are getting pretty good but if you want really good work try a digital SLR camera. If you have some post-production image editing software you can make even a cell phone picture look professional.
Working at the tail end of a 35 year career in commercial photography in NYC I'm cringing as I read this... but I suppose that's a "me" problem.
Go for the free sunlight on a day with light cloud cover... shadows but not sharp ones. Good luck!
MJ, maybe you can give me some tips on getting the most from my camera. It's a Baby Brownie.
Haaaa...I have 2 of those and maybe 50 other oldies that "arrived" over the years. If only I had the patience for ebay...
I used mine on field trips when I was a kid.
If you want the photos for a portfolio I would go with a pro. If they are just for your records or to show friends and family then try it yourself.
Photographing your own work is possible, I shot these in my living room!
You're hired! :)
I shot this in my bedroom!
