I’m building a test blanket chest from pine. I will use hide glue sizing to eliminate blotching. I would like to use a dye or combination thereof to achive an amber or golden color. Anyone have a finishing schedule to share?
I will probably give it to a neighbor and want it to look nice.
Thank you.

You might find that amber shellac gives a very attractive color for pine. Also remember that the pine itself will become more amber, or depending on the species, more orange over time, so if you get the color "just right" now in a couple of years it will begin to be darker.

I'm thinking that shellac is a better sealer over pine than hide glue sizing. You can stain with dye over shellac -
