Hi.
I need to find stickers for air drying pine. I have a ton of dry pine leftovers that I want to mill to 1/2” X 1/2” , but I’ve been told that pine stickers will stain the wood. I think there shoul be no problem since it is dry, but…
Is there any wood to avoid beside oak for stickers? Anything else important to know for a firs timer in air drying lumber?
Thank you,
Fred

There's another current thread about stickers. See Richards reply here:

I was 'thinkin' again! Gee sorry..
Why not PVC pipe.. Cheep and available.. Yep ya probably get some dings from the round.. But..
I hope the stack do not roll down the hill....
Pine should work fine, but 1/2" is a little small in both dimensions unless you are just stacking one flitch. 3/4 X 3/4" is the standard minimum, and no more than 1 1/2" W.
A half inch is a big loss of air-flow through the stack, and in a large stack you might get some crshed grain. Also if some of the boards are uneven, or inclined to twist that is a little on the flimsy side for keeping things aligned and flat.
I made my workbench out of 2x4s when doing that, the boards used for the top got cut down to 3" to make a flat surface on the top. I took those scraps to make my stickers... not sure if it's proper, but it seems to work for my limited supply of oak...
