Pine T&G interior paneling matchup is my issue. I promised to help a buddy un-screwup his 1 story 2 bedroom home. It appears he has a 3 season room with T&G pine that is heavily varnished (gloppy thick stuff) and an extra window that goes into his boys bedroom. He wants to replace the window with just pine in the 3 season room and drywall on the bedroom side. The mechanics are easy. The finish is the issue.
I need to get new pine T&G paneling and replace them in the three season room. The issue will be the ageing of the existing material. I guess the nitric Acid wash is one version of a prefinish before the varnish but I wonder if anyone else has a suggestion. (oh yes I could probably paint the varnish with a wisk broom and get the same quality finish.)
Suggestions? This is their first home and their pockets aren’t too deep.

How about orange shellac?
Never used shellac, that sounds like a good option. Is there a spray version? or is the only way by mixing flakes with alcohol and spraying/padding it on the surface?
Understand this is an inexact project as well as something that doesn't need to look pretty, just consistent with the original.Jack of all trades and master of none - you got a problem with that?
tea makes a good stain. And a shellac might work as well. They might have to be used together because i dont think one single finish would get the needed results.
