Planar motor turns backwards after cleanup!
I bought a delta planar used. It worked, but not long. The brushes needed replacing. In the process of diagnosis I tore it all the way down including the motor.
After cleanup and new brush install I turned it on only to see the motor turning in the opposite direction.
Have I connected something wrong? I double checked this. Now is there a polarity issue….is that actually a thing or am I making something up?
Any help any of you can provide is greatly appreciated on my side. Ideas please!

Is it a 3 phase industrial machine? If so you need to switch two of the leads.
If it’s single phase as in your house then it’s not the wiring unless you disconnected any internal wiring.
Take the plate off and check the wiring diagram. I believe some single phase motors are reversable.
You mentioned replacing the motor brushes. This must be a benchtop planer with a universal motor.
If you Google "reversing a universal motor" you'll find info. It's likely that during reassembly you reversed the connections to the field windings or you reversed the connections to the armature.

What Mike said.
I triple checked the wiring diagram. I flipped the connections at each brush as a test. Seemed the same, but ill try flipping them back. There's not much else in there. So I'm puzzled. I bought this used so ill look for docs online as well. I'll let you know soon. Thank you for each idea and comment.
Just as a double check ....
If you ignore the cutterhead for a moment and only look at the 2 feed rollers (from a safe distance!), are they rotating in such a direction that if you tried to feed a piece of wood into the planer, they would push it right back at you?
Mike
Also, not familiar with your machine, but is there a chance that you reinstalled the rotor backwards? Just thought.
the motor is turning in the exact opposite than intended direction. It is pulling the wood thru from the back side and coming out the front. The blades are obviously still facing the correct directiosn so this just nicely feeds the wood thru and doesnt do much. Ive checked the wiring and all of it is exactly the same as previously when it spun in the correct direction. I did tear it all down and switch the connections to the brushes swapping them thinking "why not" lol But same result.
I think i will look up a manual for this model and triple check that real quick. overall im wondering if by removing all parts of the motor ive somehow reversed it in a connection i dont realise . I will video the next tear down.
Thank you all for these ideas on what to check. Its a strange issue for me to see.
Is the cutterhead also spinning in the opposite direction?
I did some poking, and if I understand what I read correctly "swapping" the brush wires would not have the desired effect:
