These parts are soon to be a plane. Thought it might be fun to post a before and after. I assembled the plane body last week and made the iron this weekend, actually I made a couple of irons(still need hardening). The infill is a piece that came off the edge of a mahogany crotch that I’ve had for several years. This will be a small smoother with 50 degree pitch. I have another version of this plane coming along behind this one that will be
pitched at 55 degrees. This plane will of course look a lot different when I’m finished and that’s the fun of posting pics now.

How did you make the blade? Did you buy the stock or did you recycle it from somewhere else?
MvflaimI bought 0-1 tool steel stock. Not the easiest thing to work but I managed to cobble out a couple of blades. Acually the first one took a while the next one about 45 minutes. The heat treating is going to be the tricky part. I hope to make a couple of lever caps in the next day or so.RonEdited 3/6/2007 7:18 pm ET by Ronaway

Metal working is completely foreign to me. I would love to build a complex molder someday but I'm clueless about metallurgy. Not to mention the making the wood body would be pretty tough too.
That type plane would be a challenge in any material.Ron
Love those "before" shots...
