Hi everybody I am having trouble with a KeenKutter #5.5. The problem is that the mouth of the plane clogs even with a very light cut. I have a Hock replacement blade in the plane. If I back up the frog so the mouth opening is bigger the frog is to far back and the blade does not seat on it. I compaired the mouth opening to my Keenkutter #5 which cuts very well with a Hock blade and they look the same so I thought I would ask you all if you had any suggestions before I try anything radical.
Thanks
Troy

Sounds as if the mouth is small with the thicker Hock iron and the cap iron is in the way. If so, leave the mouth setting tightish and move the cap iron back about 1/8" and try again.

Thanks I will try that.Troy
That did it, I have always set the chipbreaker much closer to the edge and did not realize that moving it back would give me the extra clearance. Many thanks for your help.Troy
When I upgraded my plane irons to the thicker blades, I found that moving the frog back a smidge helped as well.Norman

The problem I had with this particular plane was that I could not move the frog back anymore with out it being so far back that the blade did not sit on the frog. I did move the chip breaker back about 1/8th of an inch from the edge of the blade and that did it and the plane is happy now.ThanksTroy
Sorry, I should have read your original post more carefully . . . Glad you got the problem solved.Norman

Your statement.. That did it, I have always set the chipbreaker much closer to the edge and did not realize that moving it back would give me the extra clearance. What I do! Dang.. I tried it and it works!
