Does any one back bevel (put a bevel on the back side) planer/jointer blades? I have heard doing this helps prevent tearout, & leaves a better finish. I talked to the place that sharpens my blades & he has not heard of it, but would do it if he knew the angle. Thanx.

My sharpening service does this automatically, unless you ask them not to. I believe it is 5 deg.
it steepens the cutting angle, however youll probably need to lower the feed speed.
On figured wood it does help lessen tearout. however its not an excuse or remedy for improper jointing or planing.
