Right now I’m currently out of the country serving overseas? But will soon be returning. I’m in the market for a portable planer? I’ve been doing research on the different brands. And I’m leaning more towards the Delta 560. Would love the 580 but I’m on a budget and want to buy more tools. If anyone has any information on the 565, I would sure love to hear it! Thanks for the help guys!

Will, I have a Delta 22-540. It has never failed me. I wouldn't have a problem recommending it.

I have the Delta 12.5" portable. Can't remember the number. I checked out all the "lunchbox" planers pretty carefully before buying. The Dewalt is a well made tool, but the one-sided blades are expensive, and I didn't see enough difference in quality to offset the higher cost. The Makita is very well rated, but a little steep at $450. Delta has a new 2 speed 13" planer, might be worth a look. If I was more than a weekend woodworker, I'd probably go for the Makita, but for occasional use it's hard to beat the Delta price.
I also have the 12 1/2 inch Delta, whatever model number that is. I would highly recommend it. I've had it for three years now and have really put it to work and it hasn't missed a beat. The blades are cheap and easy to change and the only snipe I've encountered is with long boards that are not supported properly on the outfeed side.

Will - I bought the Ridgid (after I bought the Delta 560 and returned it - poor fit/finish) and have been very pleased with it.
Will,
I've also been using the Ridgid planer since December. I've run some rough cherry, pine, maple, and old antique heart pine (hard stuff that chips easily). No complaints. Very sturdy. Only snipe is when I forget to lock down the cutter head. Also can't beat the LIFETIME warranty.

I have the Delta 12.5. I'm most happy with. Planes quite smoothly.
Will,
I bought the 565 Delta about 2 months ago, and have nothing but good things to say about it. I know that's not very long, but I have used it quite a bit. I hope I can give the same report in ten years.
By the way, be careful over there,
Jerry
