Merry xmas to everyone
I have recently met a great old gentleman who has about 200 antique planes that he is selling off. What I would like to know is how to know what they are worth.
Also, if anyone is interested in any of them perhaps I could help you. Please don’t think that I am making anything from them but just trying to be a good guy. sincerely, bob

Hi bob, If the gentleman has any bedrock series stanley planes I would be intrested.
Some planes # you should look for are #62 or #64, #78,#9,#1or#2,#10. Contact me if this man has any of these planes by stanley.
for wally and toms- The planes are all wooden molding and some plow planes etc. I do not have any pictures for you. I will be talking to this gentlemen next week and will find out if he has email and let you know. bob
By antique are we talking wooden planes and molding planes or more of a vintage metal-bodied Stanley plane? I'm sure there will be all kinds of interest in either type, but I'd like a pic or two if possible.
Thanks,
TomS
get a copy of "A Guide to the Makers of American Wooden Planes" by Pollak - it is not a true price guide like the Walters Stanley toold price guide but does rate rarity and gives something to consider for price. Also "A Price Guide to Antique Tools" by Kean - I do not have this one, but supposedly has about 400 plan prices listed. Both books by Astragal Press and should be available through Amazon.
You might also review ebay under collectible/tools for some general idea of value.
maker of the plane is a big factor in value
I might be interested - is he looking to sell them piecemeal, or as a lot? Please put me on the list for any information you get, I'll also subscribe to this thread.
Thanks,
Clay
Hi bob black,
I've got more than enough antique hand planes in my collection. If your interested you could try Bob Kaune's website: http://www.antique-used-tools.com . This site has lots of old time hand tools for sale. Just cruise through there to get an idea of what the value of those planes are.
Those daring young men in their flying machines!
I just bought a half dozen NEW wood planes for under $40 each. HSS blades and rosewood bodies.
While a collector might pay more than that, they are not worth more than $40 in like new condition.
