I am interested in constructing a Bombe' style secretary. Are there any plans available for this. I would appreciate it if someone could let me know. Michael Pryce [email protected] Many Thanks.
*Michael, I am also wanting to make a Bombe' piece.I am searching for a good plan to make a Bombe' 3 drawered chest. Perhaps the bottom half of a secretary could fill the bill.I am looking for a detailed plan for a Bombe' design that has curves on both front and sides.I would like to keep the discussions open on your choice of wood for your piece.Thank you, Tool man.
*Okay, I got into here by clicking on your name in the tambour question on the main board. Hope you don't mind me responding here rather than there. This seems more appropriate anyway. I've never been in this section of the forum before, and I may well not come back, so you will need to email directly if you have more questions (Watch out for the [spurious] barrier though at the end of my address.) Furniture design and making is what I was trained to do, but I'm always learning and I'm never surprised to find out how little I really know!Regarding your question on Bombe style furniture, I can't point you to plans that lay out all the details for you. I've worked on a few antique examples over the years, and I know pretty much how to make one, but that requires me drawing together several threads of information, techniques, and skills to explain it all.Have you looked around all the information resources available here? (Taunton site.) I have to admit I haven't, so I don't know what's there. One thing you might try would be to type "Bombe Chests" into a search engine or two. Also try "Gentleman and Cabinet-maker's Director" authored by "Thomas Chippendale". Again "Cabinet Dictionary" or "Cabinet-maker and Upholsterer's Guide" authored by "Thomas Sheraton". The last title was also used by "George Hepplewhite". The quotation marks help no end to narrow down a search, and you probably already know this, so I apologise if I'm trying to teach you old tricks.Sorry to be of so little direct help, but it's often surprising what information can be found on the internet as I'm sure you know. After I've finished here, I'm planning to go and have a look at some of those names myself just for fun!
