Does anyone know of a source for plans for a downdraft table similar to the ones in the new Grizzly catalog? I have a 2 HP cyclone to provide suction but need input on the height and angles for the sides, hole diameters and placement in the top, and any other pertinent info.

I did mine real simple. I just built a box about 30"x 30" and 3 or 4" deep. I made the bottom out of 1/4" hardboard with a 4" dust port to my Delta 1.5 horse collector. I put a pegboard top on it and some legs. I have to say I didn't know what to expect in terms of performance but it works pretty well. I'm only estimating the dimensions because it's to darn cold, (-9), to go out to the shop and look!!!
Like I said, it's a simplistic approach but it works well and you won't go broke building it. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks Bill. I was thinking of doing what you did, but have some concerns about the efficiency of collection at the outer edges. Does yours seem to have as much suction at the edges as it does near the middle? My alternative is to make it 12" to 18" deep and use beveled sides but I'm not sure it would be worth the extra effort. Any thoughts?
sorry it took so long to get back. I think that the suction is great at the edges. I'm using a 4" pipe to the collector so there is ample suction so that I don't seem to have any "deadspots" in the table. I'm pretty pleased with the performance.

Thanks to both of you for your help. Looks like you did similar things that work well, and once again I was going to grossly over-engineer. Guess I'll scrap my plans for an elaborate table with sloped sides and go with what works - a simple rectangular box.
Thanks for saving me a lot of work.

I used a plan from wwj, but modified it using 4" deep sides with a 12" hood in the center. I have no problem with suction when sanding, as the peice in the center decreases the area of suction. Mine is mounted to the back side of my bench and folds down.
