rod,
more than likely you've done a bit of homework, google and such. i can't find much either, except the chintzy ones. sometimes when i am in the same boat i go find one and, if possible take measurements and notes. some proprietors may frown on this. try to get alone with the easel. maybe a local college or high school will allow you to shoot some pictures and take some measurements.

rod,
if you find and build what it is you're looking for, please post some pictures here. seems to me this subject came up some time ago. i assume you are wanting to make one of those grade-A, really nice easels, the expensive type.
hang in here with knots. someone will be along shortly with what you need. there's some serious talent here-abouts.
also, to my way of thinking getting to see and measure the real thing is sometimes the easy way out. following someone else's instructions and drawings is not always ideal for me.

Rod,
The file attached is an image for the design that I use. I exported it in the highest resolution, so the file size is fairly large but you should be able to zoom in and see most details. I made the design using KeyCreator 8.0. I've been making them from cherry and they work well and look nice.

David, that's a very nice easel design. Looks easy enough to build, too. I had a go at a 3D model of it.

Perhaps you have solved your problem but I will give you my input anyway...
Sometime back Norm built a pretty nice easel on his show. You might check out the New Yankee workshop for those plans. I think it is probably still there even tho' Norm has gone on to bigger and better things.
I made a version of something that I saw at Dick Blick Art supplies for my oldest grandaughter (She is my lovely lady) and we get along well. She never used it.. AND I thought it was a good job? Yes, she told me she loved it, BUT I never saw her use it!
I made her another style that she just loved..AFTER... We 'discussed' what she really wanted. I then fitted my work to her thoughts while she was sitting on her favorite painting bench/stool?.
Anyway, do talk to her, and then make something 'she' wants to use! Artists are 'strang folks'?
I am not sure what half of my brain I use. Sometimes very little of either half! I am a very good mechanic but my art skills suck...
