plans for building a "highboy’
*
I would like to purchase a complete set of plans for building a Queen Anne style Highboy. One with
a curved top and finials.
I have not had any luck in finding a set of plans.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thank You

There is a nice plan in the book, "Queen Anne Furniture" by Norman Vandal (Taunton Press). Fine Woodworking also did a 3 part series on making a bonnet top highboy about a year ago but I don't remember how detailed the plans were.
*The book by Lester Margon, "Construction of American Furniture Treasures," has measured drawings of an early American highboy from the Cleveland Museum of Art that seems to have the features you mentioned. It includes information on the highboy's construction and reproduction.
*Darryl,Thank you for the info on the highboy plans. I willlook at Lester Margons book. I would have gotten backsooner but I was out if town.ThanksSteve
*John,Thank you for the info I will check it out. I can check out back issues of fine woodworking at my local library. Thanks againSteve
*right in fine woodworking issues 117 thru 119 there are plans for a full-bonnet boston highboy by randall o'donnell. it's a nice piece. hope to find the time to make one myself one day. good luck!
*I am seriously considering building a highboy. I just seams right. I have read most, if not all, of the publications listed. I see in many cases that the craftsmen chose Cherry, curly Maple, curly Cherry etc. Then they tend to stain them to look like Mahogany. For me the availability of African Mahogany is better and less expensive than Cherry. I find Mahogany to be an excellent wood to work. So here is my question - why should I consider anything other than Mahogany?
*Was the Mahogany sustainably produced? I love working Mahogany, but if I wonder if I have contributed to the demise of the Rain Forests, it's not quite as enjoyable.Bill
*I appreciate your comment and had not considered. So how does one find out if African Mahogany is sustainably produced?
